Film Notes

“I have it in my head that I must, if not win the game, at least not lose it. I have done it: I have made a film about gambling, Le Roman d’un tricheur, and if this film is successful, I shall finally consider that all the hours which I have spent around the green baize were devoted to the work, to the documentation, that I needed. I will go even further, because it is necessary in life to be logical: all that money which I have lost, I am going to have the right to subtract from my tax declaration, putting it under the heading ‘professional expenses’”.
