CR KIDS – ANIMATED POLAND

After a year long gap, Animated Poland is back at Il Cinema Ritrovato with five short animations. This selection offers a colorful mix of animation techniques from puppet, cut-out and cartoon characters featured in different seasons – mostly Winter landscapes, like in Śnieżynka by Lucjan Dembiński, but a bit of a Summer scenery as well. We are thrilled to present a captivating short Jeśli ujrzysz kota fruwającego po niebie… by Daniel Szczechura, one of the most well-known Polish animation artists. It’s a metaphorical and esoteric story with an energizing, jazz soundtrack. Animated Poland will also show Rozbitek by Edward Sturlis, a short with wonderful puppets and set design and a very modern gloomy parody on humans values and relationships. Along with these films, we are presenting two episodes of the adventures of Peter, his dog Pimpek, and the mysterious enchanted pencil from one of the most famous Polish children’s series, Zaczarowany ołówek. The films have been digitized and restored by Filmoteka Narodowa – Instytut Audiowizualny (FINA), as part of the ongoing preservation and restoration project of the Se-Ma-For (Studio Małych Form Filmowych) collection held at FINA.
