In Vita da cani, we succeeded in portraying the world of variety shows, which we were really interested in. Fabrizi collaborated on the script because he had a lot of anecdotes and personal memories. In Vita da cani, Fabrizi recreates himself in a certain sense, while also taking inspiration from other, more or less known actors who hadn’t been very successful. Amidei, who knew that world very well, also collaborated. When we were making the film, we didn’t know that Lattuada and Fellini were shooting Luci del varietà, nor did they know about our film. Variety shows were a gold mine that hadn’t been exploited much.
