Film Notes

These [Fighting Film] Albums were open to short films in any form, any style, so long as they made a useful statement about some phase of the war against fascism. They poured in, from Moscow and Leningrad, from Kiev and Odessa – farce, fantasy, comedy, tragedy (…). The second Album, shown in North and South America as This Is the Enemy, appeared from Lenfilm on August 11th. Two of its five items were written by V. Bjelajev and Mihail Rosenberg, the latter from the team that wrote The Girl from Leningrad, and its director, Eisimont, made another of the items. The climatic fourth item, a bitter drama of Yugoslav hostages, was directed by Herbert Rappoport. The close was a ‘gag’ by Grigorij Kozincev: Incident of Telegraph Office shows a warning being sent to Hitler by Napoleon.
