Film Notes
June 10, 1944, the Panzer Division “Das Reich”, on its way back through Normandy, executed reprisals in Oradour-sur- Glane, in Haute-Vienne, to intimidate the resistance. Gathered on the fairground, the inhabitants were divided: the men were killed in the barns, the women and children in the church, which was set on fire. Over 640 people died; only 6 survived. The remains of the village have been maintained exactly as they were as a haunting memorial and testimony of Nazi barbarism.
