Film Notes

An old miller disowns his daughter upon finding her in the arms of her beloved Julien. Jeanne takes refuge with Julien’s mother and soon marries the man she loves. Before long, they have a child they adore. They would be perfectly happy if only the old miller would open his arms to them… But the miller is still angry with his daughter for offending him. Hence his wife, a charming and clever grandmother, comes up with a biblical plan… She puts a crib with the newborn baby into the water, which the current soon carries to the locks in front of the old mill…
