Film Notes

A Hollywood director who, while not well known, cannot be neglected, Heisler takes on a story already filmed by Walsh as High Sierra and again as Colorado Territory. Jack Palance takes the place of Humphrey Bogart and Joel MacCrea. His bony boxer’s face brings the stigma of those repeated deaths before a woman who never fails to waste him with her fiery gaze. A harsher, more comical, more melodramatic film than Walsh’s? One thing is certain: in those days, Heisler and Walsh were breathing the same air.
