Film Notes

“The Saturn Akt.-Ges. company issued an invitation to the ‘Marmorhaus’ for a press preview of the two first films in their Asta Nielsen Series 1916/17. Once again, a drama and a comedy (Love’s ABC). Asta Nielsen plays the main role in both. First, the two plots. The drama is called Dora Brandes, and is about a woman who is passionately in love with and devoted to a man – he is a journalist – whose path to political greatness she smoothes. This she does with money which she gets from a for- mer admirer. When her lover hears of her sacrifice for him, he rejects her. As a result, she becomes totally unstable, sinking lower and lower, until alcohol robs her of the last vestiges of dignity”.
