Film Notes

Love and adultery are central themes in most episode films from the Sixties, but “the compact quality allows for the treatment, in addition to ordinary sex, of the topics that are taboo in other comedies” (Enrico Giacovelli), like homosexuality, introduced by Franco Rossi in this holiday love triangle which sees the handsome blond foreigner being attracted, not to the wife of the couple, but to the husband, played by Nino Manfredi. The segment is also remarkable for the nuanced image of the rough and jealous Italian it offers, thanks to the delicate and melancholic figure played by Manfredi and the use of the characters’ inner voice which, together with the depth of field, allow the characters and their relations to be played with ironically.
