Film Notes

The essence of human relationships and carnal desire as a divertimento in six movements. The carnival that is courtship shown as a fancy dance between light and darkness; the reality of desire done as a series of kisses and caresses; the vérité of dawn. Once again on her own, the woman smokes pensively while the man who left walks on till he reaches a small lake whose surface he stares at in awkward confusion. In-between: matches and wicks, flames and flickers, plumes of smoke and early morning’s mist. Människors möte screened in Sweden originally as a short subject with Ingmar Bergman’s Persona.
