In 1951, while bombings in Korea caused civilian deaths, exodus and misery, the French had lived for six years in peace; a peace undermined by the warlike approach of the états-majors. In a public housing unit of Saint-Ouen, Martin invites neighbors to talk about how to defend peace. Sitting around coffee, they express their fears and hope that the great nations will unite. In contrast, one of the attendees says that a powerful army could be a deterrent. A porter, a concentration camp survivor, points out that three generations experienced war: in 1870 and during the two world wars. The World Peace Council was formed as a platform for people who want to put an end to war and to demand a peace treaty between the ve major powers. In Paris, the World Peace Council organized a major meeting for July 15. Everywhere in France, delegates invite people to sign the petition for a peace treaty. Protests and signatures increased in number around the world. United to defend peace, people everywhere made the simplest choice: they chose life.
