Film Notes

The Lightning Raider is a masked thief who robs just for the thrill of it and finds it even more interesting to restore the stolen loot to the legitimate owners. Unfortunately during one of her exploits she encounters the odious Wu Fang (Warner Oland), an evil member of the Chinese underworld who makes her the target of a thousand potentially life-threatening traps. Obviously Pearl always escapes them without a scratch, ever ready for new adventures. In this segment her character’s feminist subtext becomes explicit in a scene where she drops into a room in which the members of an anthropological society are discussing the “inferiority of the cerebral brain cavity of women” and with priceless irony puts these ideas to rest as a delicious Avenging Angel.
