Film Notes

This film is an exception both in terms of its social setting and technical qualities. The criminals frequent a basement pub, literally an underworld, whereas the preacher lives close to the sky (and God), at the top of a building overlooking the city. Holger-Madsen and his cinematographer Marius Clausen use light and shadow in particularly innovative ways, especially in the backlit striptease sequence! The film has three endings, one for Danish audiences, one for the Russians and one for the Swedes.
