A brilliant and ferocious portrait of the Catholic fascist hypocrisy which is exposed by Ferreri and his co-screenwriter Rafael Azcona through the daily behaviour of a strict authoritarian teacher, caught in a trap of his own making. The commode in the wardrobe, so that the female students did not have to leave during the Italian written test, undermines the teacher’s behaviour, displaying his erotic temptation. This happens through a purified style which nullifies every possible explanation or psychological justification, glorifying instead the behavioural act in itself: his obsession for tidiness, the (pretense of ) moral rectitude, the visible contempt for sexuality (his views on women who breastfeed), the importance of touch and hearing expose the perversions of his behaviour, obsessively imprisoned by his own repressiveness.
