Film Notes

Theo Regout  (1901-1988) was an inveterate traveller. Born in an industrial family who owned ceramics and china factories, he preferred not to follow in his ancestors’ footsteps. Between 1924 and 1964 he made ever more extensive journeys, covering all continents except Antarctica. His film camera was his most constant companion. Although the family capital allowed Regout to travel in the first place, part of the money for financing his travels came from the hundreds of  talks he gave for both specialized and lay audiences. These talks were followed by a compilation of the shots he had made, with intertitles and accompanied by gramophone music. This programme was compiled by Ruud Visschedijk from the African travelogues Regout made in the 1930s and 1950s.
