Dear Fellow Cinephiles,
as anticipated, Il Cinema Ritrovato 2020 had to reimagine itself. We have learned from the history of cinema that financial, logistic and other forms of restrictions can sometimes lead to producing more intriguing ideas. This was precisely the case with the set of health protocols imposed by the spread of the pandemic, which pushed us to work with renewed energy, believing we could still create a unique experience.
Hence, the decision to double our offer: on the one hand Il Cinema Ritrovato taking place for real, in Bologna, with an audience (safely!) watching the films in cinemas, sharing the pleasure of reconnecting with life and art; on the other, a digital experience to allow both those have attended the festival in the past, as well as newcomers, to enjoy the Bologna experience. We have selected some rare films and brand new restorations as part of our online line-up. All the films programmed in our virtual theatres will be available up to a specific ‘seat capacity’ and for 24 hours only. If you couldn’t come to Bologna this year, take Il Cinema Ritrovato home, hoping that we’ll see you in person next year. The complete schedule will be available soon.
