Film Notes
Marches usually featured in the Berlin comic operas, with the military beat cheerfully accompanying people behaving badly on stage and men kissing each other on the mouth. Jean Gilbert’s most successful example was adapted in 1953 by the composer’s son (Robert Gilbert) and enriched by the addition of Gilbert’s 1912 evergreen «Puppchen, du bist mein Augenstern» (Baby, You’re the Apple of My Eye).
