Film Notes

The Wiser Sex is the first of six films that Claudette Colbert made for Paramount in 1932 (the others being The Misleading Lady, The Man from Yesterday, Make Me a Star, The Phantom President and The Sign of the Cross). It is also both Franchot Tone and Ross Alexander’s debut movie. Clyde Fitch’s play on which the film is based, had already been screened twice. First by Hugh Ford in 1916 under the title The Woman in the Case starring Pauline Frederick and then again in 1922, as The Law and the Woman with Penrhyn Stanlaws as the director and Betty Compson as the heroine.
