Film Notes

“A fictional documentary about the life in the militia”, this film tells the story of Paul, the victim of anonymous letters. A poster reads: “Résistance, Liberators? No, Terrorists!” Paul meets up with some friends in a café. During their conversation, one of them says that he has had it with partisans. When Paul goes back home, he finds out that his younger brother has disappeared: he was killed by some strangers (the person they really were looking for was their father: “he’s got his own ideas,” says a neighbor). Paul decides then and there to join the state militia and stand up to “the enemies of the French order”. He receives physical, military and moral training for three months at a militia training ground. During his first mission against the “terrorists” he demonstrates his courage and captures a partisan. At the end we see the militiamen taking oath before the French flag accompanied by the militia song, “The New France”.
