Film Notes
In 1982, the West German Short Film Festival organized an open discussion on film support measures between filmmakers and representatives of various organizations. On that occasion a young man went up to the microphone /… / and turned the hearing into a happening. His name was Bertram Jesdinsky from the “Anarchistische Gummizelle Düsseldorf” (Anarchistic Rubber Cell), and that marked his first appearance on an international stage. The “Anarchistische Gummizelle” is composed of a number of young people (no one knows exactly how many), who have joined forces to shoot Super 8 films of subversive humour and make appearances as a performance group . The performances have an anarchic beauty about them, and are a naive combination of music, film and theatre. On occasion they also flop, but in those cases it is still refreshing to see how an ambitious programme is simply broken off because it’s not working. All events are anarchistic.
