“Un fils d’Amerique (called Il figlio della strada in Italy) was shot in Hungary for the Société des Films Osso of Paris. The film was taken from a theatrical comedy by Veber and Gerbidon that played in the Théatre de la Renaisance in Paris in 1913 and brought up to date by Veber’s sons, René-Gilles and Serge. It is the story of a man who presents himself as the son, gone missing twenty years before, of an old tycoon. After having put his pseudo-father’s business in order and made his pseudo-sister fall in love with him he prefers to dissappear after confessing his deception. The critic of La Rivista Cinematografica wrote: ‘The ability and skill of Carmine Gallone, who has shown himself to be a brilliant director, has made this film a beautiful work to be praised for its theme as much as for the ideas found in it, that distinguishe it from other works to be found on the market’.
And a further trump is made up of the couple of protagonists, the delicate Annabella and the winsome Albert Prejean, in a part beside Simone Simon, here in one of her first appearances”.
