FILMING THE TRIAL BY ORSON WELLES
Sc.: O. Welles. Op.: Gary Graver. Cast: Orson Welles. Prod.: O. Welles
Film Notes
Filming the Trial was the attempt to produce a follow-up to Filming Othello. This time Orson chose a film which was not protected by copyright in the US anymore. Basis for the film was a discussion between Welles and the audience after a screening of The Trial at the University of Southern California which took place on November 14, 1981. Gary Graver filmed the discussion with one 16mm camera, Orson stopped the talking when Gary Graver had to change the film material. The restored version by Filmmuseum Munich added the preview trailer of The Trial and edited the material slightly – without any loss of a sentence by Orson Welles. It shows a highly entertaining discussion dominated by Welles who knows how to fascinate an audience.
