Film Notes

“As other fiction feature films – Righelli’s La scala, for example – these political newsreels, documents found in Pittaluga Fund at Museo Nazionale del Cinema of Turin, are very helpful in showing the original (and/or simultaneous) preparation of an edition with titles obviously used together with the accompaniment of solely musical sound track. However, the original negatives, stored in Cineteca Nazionale, do not bear any trace of the possible addition of placards. Obviously the good quality live recording and mixing enabled Cines-Pittaluga to produce at this stage undoubtedly superior film documents, as far as originality and technical skills are concerned, than contemporary Luce Newsreels, with which in the early Thirties the company from Rome was openly competing a competition which however ended suddenly in 1934”.
