Film Notes
Velilkoie proscianie is the film aboud the burial of Stalin, shot by a balation of cameramen, almost without direction, then edited by the crew of the Ceniral Studio for Documentaries in Moscow, and supervised by a group of directors, lead by Ciaureli. The result is a great epic, a very sirong and effective film, very cleverly done, shot, edited: the story of the whole world staying still, shocked by the death of the “greatest man on earth”. History comes to an end. And the great sorrow (the traslation of the tittle) stilI remains, with its colours (that we can see at their best, since this print is taken from the original negative), the very last masterpiece of the Stalinist cinema.
