Film Notes

Another example of the historical films the dictators wanted to be produced. In this case is the life of GeneraI Suvorov, who won Napoleon. As Hitler in Der grosse König and Mussolini in Campo di maggio, Stalin was highly interested in this picture, because, at this time (1940), he was trying to impose a new image of himself as a military chief to get rid of the “shadow” of Lenin. An evidence of this interest was a letter addresed to Minister Bolshakov (on July 9, 1940) where Stalin discusses and criticizes the screenplay.
