Film Notes

Exotic melodrama, drawn from a novella by Edith Wherry and set in China, during the Boxer rebellion. Alla Nazimova plays two roles, that of a Eurasian girl called Mahlee, and that of the unsuspected half-sister of the latter, Blanche Sackville. Between missions, last wishes to respect, sinister secret agents, mandarins and strange divinities, the death of one of the sisters is to be the condition for the survival of the other.
