Film Notes

A production with a modest budget, Nazi Agent is just one of the many spy films produced in the United States during the war like Ministry of Fear and Man Hunt by Fritz Lang or Saboteur by Alfred Hitchcock (to name the most famous ones). Conrad Veidt’s performance is what makes this film original. Here he plays the double role of twin brothers, one a good German and the other an evil Nazi. It was also the last role for this actor, who had fled from Nazi Germany after performing in important films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Waxworks. He also played the Jewish character Süss in the English film version of the novel by Lion Feuchtwagner, directed by Lothar Mendès, co-screenwriter of Nazi Agent.
