Film Notes
After watching this film, one Japanese fan wrote about the impression of Edith Roberts on a flyer for the theater. According to this fan’s description, “her bright face whose contour is covered with soft hair, a light smile drifting on it, the expression and the motion, all these are more mellifluous than those of Ella Hall” (“Dai-ichi Shimbun, Jan 24, 1920). It is amazing that Edith Roberts was still a teenage girl when she appeared in this film and already absorbed film fans as an attractive lady. In this – her second film at Bluebird – she plays the role a very rich girl named Diana Rosson. Fleeing from an obnoxious suitor, Diana arrives at an old lodge where she is attacked by ruthless tramps. Passing by the lodge, Dick Webster, a poor automobile agent, hears her cries and rescues her. They become friends and Diana comes to love him but he refuses because Diana is worthlessly wealthy. However, Diana arrives at a daring idea. She tells Dick that she has a poor twin sister and sends him to her with money. When Dick arrives, he finds Dorothy, a girl startlingly like Diana. It is not until they are well started toward marriage that she is forced by circumstance to tell Dick that she is not Diana’s sister, but Diana herself.
