Il Cinema Ritrovato Kids. LE TABLEAU
In collaboration with La Rochelle Film Festival, an Il Cinema Ritrovato partner, we have organised a tribute to the great French animator Jean-François Laguionie.
His long career as a director began in 1965, when he directed Le Demoiselle et le violoncelliste. The creator of poetic films with powerful and relevant messages, Laguionie’s stories talk about inequality, injustice, courage and redemption. At the festival we will present Le Château des singes (1999) and Le Tableau (2011): the first is a convincing allegorical story against superstition and ignorance adapted from a book by Norman Hudis, who also wrote the script. Filled with allusions to Picasso, Matisse, Cézanne and other masters of modern art, Le Tableau tells the story of an adventurous journey made by characters in a painting who go in search of their creator and the meaning of their existence.
