Film Notes
In the Cinematografo Sempione in Bologna, after a “show a bit too naughty” the films were confiscated by police order. These were most probably Saturn Film productions. Saturn Film was a production company in existence from 1906 to 1911 – the very first in Austria, in fact. From mid-1906 the young photographer Johann Schwarzer was producing saucy films in his photographic studio in Vienna and already in 1907 was offering internationally, and with considerable success, a catalogue of twenty films piquants. He was filling a gap in the market, since Pathé completely ceased production of scènes grivoises in 1908. Whereas the Pathés were basically fashion shows of elegant ladies’ underwear, the Saturn films featured the real thing, naked women. The business folded in 1911, when the police confiscated most of the company’s stock.
