I cannot imagine illustration without cinema. I am always watching cinema. I am torn between cinema and painting; they are my Gods. And they constantly mix.

Adelchi Galloni

In the long and varied artistic journey of Adelchi Galloni, a master of Italian illustration, the cinema has been a constant source of inspiration.
“You must study great cinema, which teaches you about framing. If you want to illustrate a story, it is the cinema that teaches you whether you need to raise or lower the skyline. John Ford, for example, sometimes leaves three fingers’ worth of sky and other times more than half the screen.” These words were spoken by the illustrator during the Hamelin Associazione Culturale retrospective of his work, which took place in Bologna in 2019. In the course of his career, Galloni has made use of different media – painting, illustration, animation, graphic design, advertisements – always experimenting and refreshing his style.
Il Cinema Ritrovato Kids pays homage to the maestro’s animated works through an array of shorts drawn from the series Le più belle fiabe del mondo, one of the most important productions in the history of Swiss Italian public television. The result of a collaboration between Galloni and Victor Tognola, the series revisits Aesop’s classic fables, adapting them for the screen using a graphic style not dissimilar from water colours. The stories are enriched by narration spoken by Giancarlo Dettori and noises by Carlo Bonomi, previously the voice of Osvaldo Cavandoli’s unforgettable Linea.
