HITLER STAY AWAY FROM MY DOOR
Film Notes
In a series of photo collages and coloured static photographs, a portrait of Hitler as a crazy fool. To a soundtrack of cabaret music, the images are edited in an associative sequence and appear to be moving while being saturated in smoke. Here, Plaat transforms the serious into the ridiculous, or as he put it: “Tragic situations inevitably have absurdist sides”.

NOW THAT YOU ARE GONE
Film Notes
Decay becomes palpable at Père-Lachaise cemetery. A woman weeps at Frédéric Chopin’s grave, as if it was her own lover that she has just lost. Mickey Mouse explores an old black Ford and the surrounding garden and wobbling gelatine puddings are shown in all their splendour. Plaat focuses with nonchalant playfulness on death and impermanence and uses colour as a connecting element

AANRAKING
Film Notes
A wordless experimental collage of impressions and moods. Grainy fragments of landscapes, flakes whirl in the wind. Fog and mist, shadows of people in the city and by the water… Silhouettes that fade and turn into pure light and shadow until we discern the specks and scratches on the film strip itself. Sometimes, for a fraction of a second, a face, a person. A film as a memory that eludes us.
