“L’Unità”, the PCI’s official paper, censured Khrushchev’s accusations about Stalin. The Comitato Civico Nazionale’s Documentation Office reports this news “with disgust and indignation”. Like a mysterious castle immersed in the shadows, Soviet Russia had prevented the world from knowing what went on behind the iron curtain. In the same way “L’Unità” and the PCI leadership had hidden the truths in the Khrushchev report from the Italian people.
