Film Notes

In this short documentary film we follow the cameraman on a journey to the heart of the African continent. We discover a natural world which is Eden-like in its perfection – and the very opposite of the wasted battlefields of Europe – and we encounter local people who, despite their lack of modernity, are happy and at peace. Man before the Fall, according to this allegory, is free from guilt; and the concept of the ‘noble savage’ is never invoked more often than when so-called ‘civilisation’ is going through a difficult patch.
