Film Notes

For the U.S. distribution of F for Fake, in 1976 Welles made a trailer containing not only scenes from the film but also new material shot with Gary Graver, Oja Kodar, Welles and a Bengal tiger. The trailer is based on the same principle as F for Fake, taking itself to the point of exasperation: questions are asked to people who don’t even exist in the film. Since the trailer was never used by the American distributor, today there exists only a 35 mm black and white copy that has been transferred to digital video. Restoration works on the trailer, planned by the Filmmuseum München, consist in taking the scenes which come from the film F for Fake and including them, in their original first generation color version, in the trailer in order to create a better copy by 2002.
