Marcello Mastroianni reading the newspaper “Il Messaggero” while taking a break on the set of Divorzio all’italiana, Monica Vitti and Michelangelo Antonioni reviewing the script of L’eclisse, and Vittorio De Sica acting while reading in a scene from Tempo di villeggiatura. These are a few of the images featured in the exhibition Il cinema che legge (Reading and Cinema), co-created by two Cesena institutions, the Biblioteca Malatestiana and Centro Cinema Città di Cesena. The pictures on display come from Centro Cinema’s archive and were selected by Antonio Maraldi with one common denominator: the act of reading. The exhibition’s three themes (reading while on a break, reviewing screenplays, and scenes with books or other writings) juxtapose classic and minor films as well as actors and actresses – both Italian and international – who are still famous or now forgotten.
