Nemzeti Filmintézet (NFI) researches, preserves, and restores Hungarian film heritage and uses it for educational ends, conserving and disseminating it both within and outside the country. Invited to the 2025 Annecy Festival as a special guest to celebrate 110 years of Magyar animation cinema, NFI presented a series of important restorations, beginning with the work of Gyula Macskássy, a master of Hungarian animation and the creator, together with György Várnai, of the successful series Peti. The protagonist who lends his name to the series is a likeable child with glasses and a red mop of hair who, together with his sister Kati and his faithful basset-hound Felix, has to contend with the bizarre inventions of the elderly, but visionary Professor Leonardo.
