Conversation with Ossama Mohammed and Mohammad Malas
Conversation between Cecilia Cenciarelli and Ossama Mohammed; Mohamed Challouf and Mohammad Malas
Mohammad Malas and Ossama Mohammed are two authors of Syrian cinema, among the most influential narratives of Arab cinema. Censored in their homeland, their films were shown and awarded at Cannes, Carthage, Valladolid, Venice and Berlin film festivals but have now unfortunately become invisible due to time-worn copies.
On the occasion of the screening of Stars in Broad Daylight (Nujum An-Nahar, 1988) by Ossama Mohammed, restored by The Film Foundation as part of the World Cinema Project, and The Night (Al-Leil, 1992) we have the unique opportunity to listen to the human and artistic story of these two masters as told by them.
Ossama Mohammed lives in France, where he has been exiled to since 2011, while Mohammad Malas will join us from Damascus to participate at Il Cinema Ritrovato festival.
