CONVERSATION WITH JEREMY THOMAS
Conversation between Jeremy Thomas and Gian Luca Farinelli
“In movies you can talk about it. I chose to allow directors to express ideas that I also held and felt within the movies. And it includes sex, politics, death and all the big things that we deal with in life. […] Because that’s the way I see life. That’s the way I’ve experienced it. And therefore I’m not shying away from what I’ve seen, read and know to be true. And therefore I’ve allowed that in the movies” (Jeremy Thomas, from an interview by Naman Ramachandran, “Variety”, July 10, 2021).
Jeremy Thomas is not only an acclaimed and award-winning film producer. Born surrounded by films (his father and uncle are filmmakers), Thomas immersed himself in the craft right from the beginning: he started as an editor (having also worked with Ken Loach); he was a director (All the Little Animals, 1998). From The Last Emperor to Taboo – Gohatto, from Naked Lunch to Dogman, his production company has collected awards by financing the projects of filmmakers of the calibre of Bernardo Bertolucci, David Cronenberg, Takeshi Kitano, Nagisa Ōshima, Nicolas Roeg, Volker Schlöndorff, Amos Gitai, Terry Gilliam, Wim Wenders, and Matteo Garrone.
Jeremy Thomas is an all-round ‘man of cinema’, driven by a deep love for the seventh art and an unbridled passion for life.
