ACE WORKSHOP
The workshop consists of two panel discussions. Audiovisual heritage can be made more accessible by co-operation between film archives and different kinds of commercial entities. The morning panel aims to address the economic models of these endeavours. The afternoon panel explores new approaches to exhibiting film collections in museum spaces, engaging both traditional and new audiences. The participation of FIAF Summer School students is expect- ed to contribute to a fruitful discussion during the workshop.
Afternoon panel, 2pm-4.30pm
Exhibiting film collections in the museum space: new ap- proaches and new audiences
The afternoon panel chaired by ACE Executive Committee member Ellen Harrington, Director of DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, will explore new approaches and new audiences for exhibiting film collections in museum spaces, with speakers from the Cineteca di Bologna, DFF Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, EYE Filmmuseum, King’s College London, and Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé.
Key topics include digital and inclusion strategies to transform permanent museum exhibitions, innovative installations to showcase audiovisual collections, and collaborations between film programming and exhibitions.
The DFF Filmmuseum is undergoing a multi-year “Transformation” project to refresh and modernise its permanent exhibition, using digital tools to provide a more interactive and accessible experience.
EYE Filmmuseum has developed two innovative projects – the “Film Catcher” installation and the “Narratives from the Long Tail” project – to explore new ways of engaging visitors with their film collections.
The exhibition No Master Territory: Feminist Worldmaking and the Moving Image at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin staged an expansive encounter with more than 100 works of nonfiction film and video by 89 artists and collectives. Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé highlights the importance of collaborations between film programming and exhibitions to explore the history of silent cinema and its relationship with contemporary film.
Participants: Erika Balsom, Gian Luca Farinelli, Giovanna Fossati, Ellen Harrington, Kate Saccone, Samantha Leroy.
