Above and Below the Line pays tribute to some of the women who worked in various sectors of the national film industry. Although many of them remained in the shadows, all of them contributed in a decisive way to the development and international recognition of Italian cinema from the 1940s to the 1970s. Through their imagination and inventiveness, they challenged and often overcame the barriers that stood between artistic creativity and production. The exhibition is part of the research project Women in Italian Film Production: Industrial Histories and Gendered Labour, conceived by Warwick and Oxford Brookes Universities in collaboration with Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
