Pier Paolo Pasolini was born in Bologna one hundred years ago. This exhibition investigates Bologna’s imprint on one of the most prophetic souls of the 20th century, from his birth, on 5 March 1922 on via Borgonuovo, to his years in high school and university, where Professor Roberto Longhi ignited his imagination and passion for figurative art – a revelation that left an indelible mark on his multifaceted creative journey. That is the premise of the exhibition Folgorazioni figurative in the new underground exhibition spaces of Piazza Re Enzo. It is a chronological journey from his debut with Accattone in 1961 to his final, posthumous film, Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma in 1975 – to reveal how great works of art history, and not solely those from the Middle Ages and Renaissance, are embedded within a filmic oeuvre that established Pasolini as one of the leading figures of that cinematic golden age of the 1960s and 1970s. A dialogue without end.
