Text plays a highly important role in this program. Rohmer said: “Portraits are not filmed. The image would lose its power following even the most concise prose: it asserts only its role as backdrop or – why not? – as a contrast. Value should be put on the text. No need to embroider it: it would simply be embroidery. So what you see appears here much looser, vaguer, and dimmer, than what is actually said.”
