Film Notes

The video is constructed around the sentence Rita Hayworth whispers in one of the most charged scenes in Gilda. The self destructive force of hate, which is the undercurrent motif throughout the entire narrative of the film, is here linked to its historical “destiny”, the seascape and airplane explosion from the movie are re-edited here to become an artificial “re-creation” of the Bikini Island test bomb explosion. The unusual description of hate as exciting reflects on the glamorized way in which war is portrayed by the media.
