Film Notes

Many film historians agree that Monte-Cristo is Fescourt’s masterpiece. Jean Frick wrote in “Mon Ciné” on August 8 1929: “Movement is the central feature of this new production. His style is excellent and the staging is as sumptuous as the action requires. It deserves to be a huge popular success”. There is no doubt that Monte-Cristo was the crowning glory of Fescourt’s silent movie career. The surviving frames testify to his acute sense of composition, to sumptuous and dazzling architecture and to a refined touch that evokes the art of ballet.
