Film Notes
This film was one of several literary adaptations that were supposed to raise the artistic tone of the Nordisk Films between 1912 and 1915. Nordisk Films bought the rights from the Austrian writer and playwright Arthur Schnitzler at a price of 5000 kroner. In 1926 he bought it back for 2500 kroner and it has been remade several times. The tragic story of the young Fritz Lobheimer who dies in a duel just after meeting the love of his life sold well: 92 copies (23 in Russia). The footage that has survived includes some beautifully photographed indoor scenes as well as the final duel in the woods.
