Film Notes

An homage to Stalin. For the 70th birthday of “Generalissimo Stalin”, trucks and vans filled with gifts, after touring through France, converge on Paris, where all the gifts destined for Moscow are put on show in the Centre J. Pierre Timbaud, called “The House of Metal Workers”. Four reconstructions show the attachment of “the people of France” to the “Victor of Stalingrad” and “The Man of Peace”: a peasant from Grigny demonstrates his gratitude to Stalin for the liberation of the country, a group of workers from the Aubry company (Bonnenouvelle site) declaim an address paying homage, the workers of a factory in Belleville lovingly construct a miniature tower, a young mother collects signatures and writes a letter to the Soviet leader. This film, banned by the censors, never obtained an exhibition visa, either commercial or non-com- mercial. Short film prize at the 1950 Karlovy Vary Festival. According to Victoria Mercanton, the film was edited by George Sadoul.
