Film Notes

Poverty and hardship lead an abandoned wife to leave her newborn baby in the chapel of a convent, laying it in the crib of the nativity scene which is set up there. After a moment’s hesitation, the nuns adopt this living gift from heaven. The combination of gothic architecture with the nuns’ flowing habits gives this film its overall sculptural beauty and impact.
