Film Notes

This documentary is contemporary with the first state visit of a Portuguese president to West Portuguese Africa. The release of this and other documentaries in the same collection was postponed for several years, not only because of war shortages but probably also for diplomatic reasons. After the war, the films were reused as internal colonial propaganda. This one in particular, probably a condensed version of Guiné Portuguesa released in 1941, had its title changed to make it suitable for exhibition during the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Portuguese settlement in Guinea-Bissau.
