Film Notes

The first film version was released in March, 1908, by the Selig Polyscope Co. Supposedly a Kalem Co. adaptation followed later that same year).  Both films, however, are still considered lost. The earliest surviving version seems to be the 1912 Thanhouser release with James Cruze in the title role(s).
